Best Stocks for the Wheel Strategy 2026
Daily-refreshed screener that applies 19 valuation models and options income filters to surface wheel strategy candidates. 2026 IV regime context included. Model outputs only — not investment advice.
2026 IV Regime Shift
Regional Banks
Rate volatility in 2025–2026 elevated IV rank on several regional bank stocks above the 30% screening threshold. Combined with positive model margins of safety in the sector, the screener is now surfacing more financials candidates than in 2024.
AI Semiconductor Names
Several AI semiconductor stocks that had elevated IV in 2024–2025 have seen implied volatility compress after large price appreciations. Lower IV reduces the premium available on short options, making them less attractive for income-focused wheel approaches under current conditions.
Defensive Wheel Ruleset
Close when the position has gained 50% of maximum premium — capture most of the theta decay without holding through gamma risk.
Sell options with approximately 21 days to expiration — peak theta decay zone without excessive short-term gamma exposure.
Close at a loss if the position moves against you by 2× the initial credit received — defined risk, no open-ended downside.

What is the wheel strategy?
The wheel strategy is a systematic options income approach with three stages: (1) Sell a cash-secured put (CSP) below the current price to collect premium. (2) If assigned, own the shares at your cost basis and sell covered calls above it to collect more premium. (3) If called away, restart the cycle. The strategy works best on stocks you are comfortable owning — which is why a valuation filter matters.
What makes 2026 different for the wheel strategy?
2026 has seen notable IV regime shifts. Regional bank stocks re-entered the eligible universe after rate-volatility-driven IV expansion. AI semiconductor names — many of which had high IV in 2024–2025 — have seen IV compress after large price runs, reducing available premium. Equity Rank's screener applies these filters dynamically, so the live preview above reflects today's environment.
Why apply a valuation filter before screening options?
Most wheel screeners only look at IV rank and delta — they ignore whether the underlying is attractively valued. If the model assigns a large negative margin of safety to a stock, you may be selling puts on an overvalued name and risking assignment at an unfavorable cost basis. Equity Rank's valuation overlay reduces this risk by filtering for stocks where the model's consensus fair value exceeds the current price.
